Take lead: Engage in constructive conversations

How do you move the dialogue forward if the discussions get stuck?

I listened to this great TED talk with Julia Dhar - and some of these tips have stuck with me. It starts with engaging in discussions - not looking for victory - but progress.

Suggested actions to engage in constructive conversations

  • Choose CURIOSITY over clash - say one sentence “I never thought of it exactly like that” and ask one question “What can you share that can make me see what you see?”. If you are curious about people, they tend to become curious about you too

  • Treat discussion like a CLIMBING WALL, not a cage fight - go into the conversation expecting to learn - and your ideas to get better - through challenges and criticism.
