Conflict: How to Talk with your Team about the Elephant in the Room

Is your team stuck in an unproductive conflict?

Then you are not alone! Sometimes issues are hard to address, because they are uncomfortable to raise and discuss.

Framing can help you get ‘unstuck’
This brilliant article from Harvard Business Review presents a simple 5-step model around framing. It helps defining the issues and setting a frame for the conversation.

This five-step model comes with great examples
1: IDENTIFY to yourself what’s impeding progress.
2: Look at the situation with CURIOSITY
3: NAME what you observe to others, WITHOUT JUDGMENT
4: Set an INTENTION with others for LEARNING
5: Invite REFLECTION and input from others

I particularly like steps 2 and 3; to distance yourself from own emotional triggers and observe without judgment. That can be challenging. Do you dare to try it out?
